A project of Community Partners, we are a Los Angeles-based family support group creating a positive environment for children, adolescents and their families to explore issues of gender identity.
Transforming Family
Welcome!
When our children share with us that they are transgender or nonbinary, our instinct is to protect them and prepare them for success as young adults.
Each member of the family has distinct needs. Most often:
- Parents are overwhelmed with questions—there is much to learn—and anxiety, based on our lack of information.
- Young children often just simply know who they are, but want to find other kids their own age who are like them.
- Older youth have usually been researching and learning for awhile, and they need to talk to peers about how to integrate that information into their actual lives.
- Siblings are approached by people with questions (extended family & friends, school administrators & peers), who ask them for clarification
As parents, we are now aware that we can help our children to grow up healthy and keep them connected to family who love and accept them. New pronouns, new wardrobe, new name, and sometimes a new urgency for medical & mental health support to keep them physically healthy and reduce dysphoria.
Our programs are designed to support each member of the family with:
- Peer Support
- Training & Education
- Family Events
Transforming Family was created by parents and professionals who have been down this path. Here, you can quickly find answers and support from peers with valuable life experience and resources. We have found that, together, we can most effectively support our youth and advocate for their best interests.
